Ebisu恵比寿

Abundant catches · thriving business

Said to be the only one of the Seven Lucky Gods born in Japan. Known for his fishing rod and sea bream, he has long been loved as the guardian of fishing and the god of thriving business.

Ebisu usually carries a sea bream, but this is a fishing boat tied to Hokkaido, so I had him hold a basket overflowing with scallops, one of Hokkaido's signature catches.

I painted his generous smile so that it raises the happiness of everyone who sees it.

His robe carries the takara-zukushi (treasures) pattern, and his hakama the auspicious seigaiha wave pattern. The takara-zukushi is based on a pattern provided in my drawing software, which I colored myself.

Main patterns on the robe and hakama

Takara-zukushi (robe)
A scattering of lucky treasures such as the magic mallet, scrolls, weights and treasure bags; a pattern that invites wealth and happiness.
Sho-chiku-bai (robe)
Pine, bamboo and plum among the treasures: evergreen pine and bamboo, and plum that blooms in the cold, symbols of celebration.
Seigaiha (hakama)
Gentle waves spreading endlessly; a wish that peace, happiness and plenty continue forever.
A basket full of scallops
One of Hokkaido's great gifts from the sea, painted overflowing as a wish for a rich catch.

* The blessings and meanings of the patterns are based on long-held tradition and are not a guarantee of any effect.
