Fukurokuju福禄寿

Happiness · wealth · long and healthy life

As his name says, he embodies three virtues: fuku (happiness), roku (wealth) and ju (long life). He is known for his long head and long white beard.

Here his long head is wrapped in a tall hat, and he holds a crystal. The clear crystal stands for a pure heart; with its light I wished for a bright future to come to everyone.

His hat and robe are covered entirely with cranes and auspicious clouds, both patterns of long life.

In the sky flies a crane, and in the sea swims a minogame, a turtle with seaweed on its shell. "The crane lives a thousand years, the turtle ten thousand": both are symbols of long life, a fitting pair for the god of longevity. I hope this figure inspires wishes for a long and healthy life.

Main patterns on the hat and robe, and around him

Tortoise-shell hexagons; long life and good fortune.
Crystal
A symbol of a clear, pure heart, held with the wish for a bright future.
Minogame
A turtle whose shell has grown seaweed like a straw cape, said to be a turtle of great age; a traditional symbol of long life.
